ALASKA TRIP DAY-2

Day two of the trip was a mixed bag. On one hand, we spent half of the day trying to figure out why the motorhome wouldn’t run for more than 60 seconds then shut off. Then on the other hand we still managed to log 250 miles and get us to Shelby Montana, near the Canadian border. The KLR is purring right along.

We found out that the coolant was leaking out through a crack in the front heater core causing a sensor in the system to shut the engine down (thank goodness). We ended up McGivering the hoses to bypass the heater core. It pays to know a little about redneck engineering!

We settled down in Shelby at a little city campground with a full hook-up so we could enjoy the luxury of unlimited hot water and all things electric. A shower is in order as my dad is starting to turn!

Today was my mother’s 76 birthday and we celebrated it by letting her boss my father around for the day. She made him put on an apron and cook dinner. Anyone that knows Don and Marilyn knows that would be a cold day.

The old boy is actually being pretty nice to her today, she asked him to get her some water out of the cooler and he said: “sure honey, Mike go get your mother some water”. He’s so good to her 🙂

That is all!

Happy Birthday Mom!. Glad to hear the motor home up and running again. Hell of a way to start a vacation but it means all the bad luck is over and from her on it’s smooth sailing. Send some pictures. Did you get the video I e-mailed?

Whats your elevation, and why no picture of Don in the apron? Are you wearing heated gear?

You know this redneck friend of mine told me about this stuff called JB Weld, sound like some in the glove compartment of the motorhome might be in order! Also, I think part of the problem might be that you haven’t given her a proper name for your posts yet (the motorhome). Don’t know how she’ll feel about it….but if Foxy is OK with it, I’d recommend snagging his, making the proper gender adjustments of course…..La Jefa?

Glad you had a good birthday Marilyn- make them treat you right. I hope today is uneventful but enjoyable. Make them take you to Banff Canada. ITs beautiful and go into the Fairmont Hotel. Pam
