I just found out that the Triumph is not scheduled to ship until June so time for plan-B. I’m going to have to buy a KLR 650 (less money) to make the trip with instead.
This is probably for the better anyway, it will keep all of the miles off the new Triumph, not to mention the wear and tear that 10,000 miles through tough roads in Canada and Alaska can dish out.
This week I am getting all of the riding gear, tools and spare parts ready to be loaded into the motorhome. Tomorrow the quest for the KLR, keep you posted…
We have agreed on the route, found some landmarks to visit, got the motorhome serviced and ready to go, so now all we have to do is get the rolling hotel to Utah by June 6th to launch this puppy!
It is Sunday April 15th, 2012 and I am in Michigan where my parents live to finalize the details of our upcoming two month trek to Alaska. We will be finalizing details about the route, food, fuel costs, maintenance costs, sites to see and whether or not my parents can get along for that period of time in a tight space.
I am supposed to be riding my new Steve McQueen Triumph but the delivery date has been pushed back to June (the date we are to depart) and that makes me nervous. I do have a back up plan to purchase a used KLR-650 Kawasaki if that happens. Stay tuned…
Next Tuesday I leave for Michigan to finalize plans for my Alaska adventure. I will be staying with my folks until April 25th. So far here is a breakdown of expenses;

Utilities- $1,500.00

Total est. $14,200.00
We will be out two months and travel over 8,000 miles!
I’m going to jump to the present day on my new blog but don’t worry we will be back to fill in the blanks later. As of this writing my Mother, Father, Benz (my dog) and I are about to embark on a two month adventure to Alaska. I will be riding my brand new Steve McQueen T-100 Bonneville Triumph, my folks and the dog will be following along behind in the motorhome. We leave June first and return August first. I hope things go well with the equipment, I hear the road can be unkind to a motorhome!
This was my first motorcycle, I was 5 years old. It was a 1966 Rupp minibike, it had a 4 hp Tecumseh motor and the brake was a steel paddle that rubbed up against the rear tire to slow you down! My father sold these out of his gas station in St.Louis Michigan.
